Do you care, where your Bank puts your money?

Almost every German citizen has his or her own checking account. When it comes to choosing a checking account, there are numerous offers available to you, so choosing the right bank can be difficult. By the way, the word “giro” comes from Italian and means something like “circle, rotation or circulation”. So it means that your money is in motion all the time.  But what actually happens to your money once it lands in your bank account?

Although banks today offer a variety of services, the original business can be described quite simply. On the one hand, banks accept savings deposits from customers, and on the other hand, they lend them out as loans to private or commercial customers. This is where one of Triodos Bank’s criticisms comes in, since in past decades banks have also provided loans to industries that are considered harmful to the climate, for example. Despite the fact that many banks have now publicly committed to aligning lending with new criteria (for example, at the COP24 summit in Katowicz, the TERRA approach was signed by various global banks, which aims to bring lending in line with the Paris 2 degree target), it is still a long and not always straightforward path to the goal. Triodos Bank, on the other hand, has 40 years of experience and is fully committed to supporting social, environmental or cultural projects to make a difference: “We have a mission, which is to make a positive impact in the world with our customers’ money. That’s why we selectively choose each individual company to which we give a loan. In the end, children are empowered to develop freely, people are cared for with dignity, or clean energy is launched.”

When can I trust a bank?

Money is a delicate subject, so naturally we ask ourselves which bank we should really trust with our money. We want to protect both our wallets and our planet and its inhabitants. But can this be combined at all? We believe it can! After all, Triodos Bank has been able to distinguish itself many times through its many years of activity and has gained extensive experience. We are grateful to have them as our partner.
